Spring Term review

Yet another busy term has flown by! We started off the term with our Titanic Day, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed, it was great to see everyone dressed up ready to board the Titanic. We all had a ticket with a person's name on it and throughout the day we researched about their life and what happened to them aboard The Titanic. We learnt to Irish Jig as Steerage  and Waltz as First Class passengers. This day was followed by our fabulous trip to The Sea-City Museum in Southampton. We learned how to stay safe whilst using the internet on Safer Internet Day. Steam Week brought us the challenge of making a cardboard boat float whilst carrying 250g of cargo. Making astronauts, then training to be astronauts was our Launch Day for Space. We learnt about the Solar System in the Space Dome. The Easter Experience at The Cosham Baptist Church was a thought-provoking insight to The Stations of The Cross.

We have also all performed our class assemblies to parents and visited Highbury Primary for Forest School. The Year 5 football team came third in their League and the Year 5/6 girls' team came fourth in their League. Well done to both teams.

Thank you to all the parents who have supported the year group this term. We hope that you all have a relaxing Easter Holiday.

The Year 5 team

Year 5 have had a very busy Autumn term! We have dissected flowers in Science, enjoyed swimming lessons at QA, learnt how to play Samba music on drums and Baby Aliens stole our teacher during Alien Pause week, which we shared with Year 1. We had a fabulous trip to Kew Gardens, where we learnt all about the plants of the Rainforests. We have debated whether or not deforestation should be stopped during P4C and we've all stood up to bullies in Anti-Bullying Week.

Remembering the brave soldiers of WW1 , we re-enacted a scene from Blackadder 'Over The Top'. Meeting the author, Peter Bunzl, was fabulous and we were so inspired that most of us bought Cogheart and we studied it for Guided Reading.

The best topic so far was our Fairtrade Flapjacks, adding our own Fairtrade ingredients really made for an interesting mix. Mayan Glyphs in clay and Mayan Kings for a day was a great way to start the topic!
