Forest school Change

Please note that Loki class' Forest school will be on Tuesday 19th June

It is not long until SATs week and the websites and files below will help you as you revise over the two week break. It would be good to give your brain a Maths and English workout everyday before doing all the other fun things you have planned for the holidays.  Just half an hour every day could make all the difference. Don't forget you have also got your revision books to help you.

Homework - Friday 2nd March

Kensuke's Kingdom - Michael Morpurgo

For your work in English next week think of reasons why Kensuke shouts 'Dameda! Dameda! No Fire!' when Michael lights a fire to alert passing ships. What reasons could he have for not wanting the passing ships to see the smoke? Also think about how Kensuke came to the island - What could he be doing there? Note down your ideas ready to discuss with your class.

The Advent Experience

by Gwyneth and Oliver

We walked to the Cosham Baptist Church,  all of us were so excited to recap the story of the Nativity! When we got there ,we were split into groups and given a passport for every destination within the story. Firstly, our faces were scanned into a camera in Passport Control to have the permission to start our well-known story.

In total awe we were fascinated when we walked into a darkened room and our first glimpse was the name Jesus. Our groups had to sort photographs in order to identify the differences. This showed us that the birth of Jesus was so different. The Surprise Room was filled with bubbles and lights. People observed how we all responded to the surprises and what we are thankful for. Next we had to decide what types of friends we were in The Friendship room- we found out that the Disciples were not all good friends of Jesus!

The Important Room - we had to identify the most important top five items we would take if we had to leave our homes - Just as Mary and Joseph had to sacrifice many things to travel.

.

In The Listening Room, we listened to two different stories told from the point of view of the Magi and the shepherds who visited the baby Jesus. We then discussed the similarities and differences between the stories - we already had a headstart here as we had already looked at the differences in RE lessons!

In the last room, The Linking Room, we had to retell the story of The Nativity and how Jesus brought the Light of God to the world.

Overall we had an amazing time and we are very grateful to Reverend Ford and Cosham Baptist Church for giving us the opportunity to learn through this experience.

Pause Week

During pause week we celebrated British Values looking specifically at diversity and tolerance. We thoroughly enjoyed visits from various members of our community.

Forest School

So far in forest school each year 6 class have had the opportunity to create a Viking longboat from natural resources . Twigs, logs and branches were collected and then each class had to work together and use their imagination to bring the boat to life!

We also created Bug Hotels - It was very interesting looking at all the bugs we found in their environments, we even found a toad!

Healthy Heart Sponsored Laps

On Thursday 28th September the whole school ran as many sponsored laps as they could to help raise money for the Court Lane Schools.

Portchester Castle

Year 6 went on an exciting trip to Portchester Castle. We looked at the different sections of the castle, made sketches, spoke about the history and had a great day out!

We are always looking for parents and helpers to join us on trips, hear children read and help with interventions. If you feel that you are able to help in anyway please contact your child's class teacher.
